English Version/Today’s Mini Lesson: Arranging a Simple Song
Today, I arranged a simple song. This can be a good improvisation exercise and can also help with Yamaha Grade 5 preparation.
Adding Chords to “Sayonara”
I arranged the intro with simple chords, but I wanted it to feel like “Something is about to begin!”
This is a classic song that many people know (the melody in the audio is slightly different).
Intro
Try creating a beautiful intro yourself!
Chord Examples
In the sheet music, the ( ) melody is an obbligato (a supporting melody).
📌 Obbligato = A phrase that supports the main melody.
Right-Hand Variations – Grade 5 Preparation
Bad Example
Many people do this, but it’s time to graduate from it!
The simpler the music, the harder it is to arrange well.
Variation Example
Feel free to experiment with different chords and accompaniment styles.
📌 Arranging a simple song in a simple way is easy, but it often sounds boring.
📌 A great arrangement makes people say, “Oh? That sounds interesting!”
This is where your improvisation and arrangement skills come in.
The key is chords! Mastering them is essential.
Try it out!
That’s it for today’s mini lesson.
Good luck with your practice! 🎶
Not Quite Philosophy, But Something to Think About
“Loving What You Do” – Inspired by Makino Tomitaro’s Words
I often think about why I continue making music.
Even though I know that seeking meaning is pointless, I still want a strong reason.
A phrase once came to my mind: “Getting closer to the divine.”
It was a desire to go somewhere no one has ever been before.
At the same time, I admired my favorite artists so much that they felt like gods,
and I wanted to get closer to them.
But this idea felt too vague and mysterious.
Then, I came across a book that had a phrase that stood out to me:
📌 “For me, plants are my religion.”
This made me want to explore this idea further.
Music and Nature
The idea of “getting closer to the divine” was too vague and mysterious.
But in my daily life, even when I feel unstable or anxious,
seeing a beautiful flower helps me stay balanced.
📌 Wind is the same. It simply blows,
but when it feels nice, it calms the mind.
These feelings, colors, and scents transform into music.
Now, I finally feel like I can express this in my own words.
Maybe in a few years, I’ll find a different way to say it.
Right now, I still borrow the power of wind and flowers to create music.
But in the future, something else might inspire me.
I wonder how my music will change as time goes on.
This is just a small thought I had while making music.
Thank you for reading!
